Audience: This course is designed for
programmers, operators, and managers who have minimal or no iSeries experience.
Description: The purpose of this course is to introduce students to iSeries
operations, the programming environment, and other basic features. This class
is a prerequisite for many other AS/Credentials classes.
Course Content:
The process for running programs and the concepts behind memory allocation.
Different types of jobs - how they are started - how they are terminated.
Control of jobs through the use of job descriptions and subsystems.
Use of the menu system and the extensive Help facility.
Concepts of objects and libraries - how libraries are searched using a library list.
How commands are formatted. Concepts of parameters, prompting, keywords and
list values.
Methods for sending and displaying messages. The purpose of message queues, message
queue delivery modes, second level text of messages, and the system operator message queue.
Control of printers output queues, and spooled files through commands and print files.
The relationship between output queues, writers and printers.
The Programming Development Manager (PDM). Features include: entering, editing,
and compiling source members, executing objects and commands, and using command
keys and user defined options.
