Audience: This course is designed for all new users of the iSeries systems.
Description: The purpose of this course is to introduce students to all aspects of iSeries computer operations. The objective is for students to be able to handle basic operating procedures upon course completion.
- IPL and powering down the iSeries
- System value keys to operating an iSeries
- iSeries system menus
- The operation of various devices: tapes, and printers
- Management of spool files
- Sending, receiving and displaying of messages
- Changing the message queue notification and handling of error messages
- On-line help and help index facilities
- Concepts of objects and libraries; how libraries are searched using a library list
- Concepts of subsystems and jobs, and how each are started and ended
- Aspects of saving and restoring, the concepts of journal management, auxiliary storage pools, RAID and mirroring.
- Aspects of system security including: physical and system security, the various security levels, user profiles, display station security and resource security.
