AS/Credentials iSeries Security Class


Prerequisites: iSeries Basic Overview & PDM, Operations, and CL Programming. Students must have an understanding of the iSeries operating environment, job queues, output queues, subsystems, etc.

Audience: This course is designed for the data processing professional responsible for implementing iSeries security. The student must know the iSeries object architecture and control language prior to attending class.

Description: The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the concepts of security. The objective is for the students to become familiar with all aspects of iSeries security so they can determine the best way to implement the appropriate security measures within their environment.

Course Content:

  • The five different levels of system security
  • The system values which control security, including devices and passwords
  • The use of use profiles to tailor users' job environments
  • The concepts behind resource security, including object authorities, public vs. private authorities, group profiles, and authorization lists
  • The assigning and changing of ownership for objects
  • The adoption of the authority of objects
  • The system's checking of object authority prior to providing access
  • The determination of the authority of spool files
  • The system values and special authorities which control display station access
  • The procedures for security recovery in the event of hardware failure
  • The strategies for building data security into applications
