Confused by ILE?

IBM provides the Integrated Language Environment (ILE) to enable developers to better manage their applications in an increasingly complex environment. Within a single ILE program there may be various parts called modules, each of which may be written in a different ILE language. This allows programmers to write applications in the language best suited to a given task without paying the high cost of external program calls when integrating the modules together. RPG IV is a programming language, and ILE is one option supported by RPG IV and other ILE capable compilers, such as C/ILE, CL/ILE, and COBOL/ILE.
